The Weyburn Gold Wings are proud to announce that defenseman Maicy Groenewegen has officially committed to Lakeland College for the 2026–27 hockey season.
Groenewegen, a standout blueliner from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, has been a key contributor to the Gold Wings’ defensive corps. Known for her smart positioning, strong puck movement, and leadership on and off the ice, Maicy has consistently demonstrated the qualities of a collegiate-level athlete.
We’re thrilled to see Maicy take this next step in her hockey journey. Her dedication and work ethic have made her a role model for younger players, and we know she’ll thrive at Lakeland.
Lakeland College, located in Alberta, has a growing reputation for developing student- athletes both academically and athletically. Groenewegen’s commitment adds to a strong pipeline of Saskatchewan talent heading to the collegiate level.
Maicy joins a list of recent Gold Wings alumni who have continued their hockey careers at post- secondary institutions, reinforcing the program’s commitment to player development and academic success.
